Chantry Barns is a luxury development of four self catering holiday apartments in attractive private gardens in a stunning position with views across to the historic Orford Castle in one direction, and the River Ore and Orford Ness in the other. For John and Sue Crane, the owners, the adaptation of this collection of old barns was very much a Grand Designs project taking over five years to complete. A great deal of love, in addition to the usual sweat and tears went into the re-crafting of old Suffolk brick, timbers and tiles to ensure that the beauties of traditional Suffolk buildings was uncompromised, while including the comfort and elegance needed for a top quality luxury holiday let. Each interior is vastly different from its neighbour, yet all have been converted to exacting specifications. The kitchens in the two-storey The Stable and the single-storey Bothy are in cream Shaker style, with granite worktops and integrated Hotpoint appliances including dishwasher, washer/dryer, touch-control hobs, oven and microwave. In The Hayloft , which has two bedrooms and a shower room on the ground floor and an open-plan living area upstairs to take full advantage of the magnificent views across the marshes to the river beyond, the shiny white kitchen has a more contemporary feel. Floors are in solid oak planks, the hall in attractive slate. Wonderful inset low voltage lighting, and bathrooms are in traditional style with Colonial taps and baths shaped for additional shower space. The finishing is simple and uncluttered, with cream Thomas Sanderson blinds, stripey bed linen and fluffy cream towels. Furniture, ranging from chunky pine twin beds, iron-frame doubles and an assortment of cool and comfortable leather and cream fabric sofas add to the feeling of space. The fourth apartment has wonderful picture windows reaching up to the rafters and two small balconies.  Just a walk away is the Crown & Castle's Trinity Bistro and The Butley Orford Oysterage, as well as two super pubs, so you may want to forget the cooking and enjoy some lovely local cuisine prepared for you.
