A snug, cosy and romantic rural retreat close to Snape Maltings

Apr 21 2009

Tucked away down a myriad of country lanes, 1 Tudor Cottages appeared to be just what the doctor ordered after a hectic time in the metropolis. A bijou property with a small front seating area and a secluded patio at the back and the cosiest of sitting rooms - the whole weekend could be spent curled up with a book in front of the wood burning stove - and guess what? even the logs are laid on.

The decoration is contemporary yet cottagey and with the benefit of an his and hers bathroom, actually a bathroom downstairs and a small shower room just off the spacious double bedroom, one could linger for an awful long time without interruption (while he takes a shower upstairs) in a sumptious hot bath sipping a glass of chilled fizz - yummee!!

And if the mood takes you then forget about the cooking and stroll down to Blaxhall village and the Ship Inn for supper - a real village pub with a west facing patio and an ambitious but realistic menu! So glad we booked as it was very busy.

The owner has been very thoughtful with the kitchen being very well equipped, the sitting room has a lovely Italian leather sofa and armchair and by the stove there is a neat desk with wifi so you can even keep in touch with your 'watched items' on ebay.

The lane that runs by the cottage is very narrow and quiet and even has a lay-by for parking next to the cottage.

Brought the bikes (somewhat reluctantly on my part) but cycling in Suffolk is something else. The countryside is really unspoilt, very few cars, a few horses and very gentle hills and we could feel virtuous whilst tucking into some lovely local fish and of course a small glass of Adnams 'Explorer' beer.

The retreat for a very relaxing break - a complete tonic.
