The Ship Inn
Real ales, real food and a real fire. Comfortable, traditionally furnished rooms, some with views across the sea or marshes. An enormous garden, dotted with fruit trees (including a 300 year old fig tree) and a beach that really is just a couple of minutes walk away

Lovely - Friendliest Staff in the World!
A really lovely place to stay. We made a last-minute trip to the area over the May bank holiday weekend and the staff at The Ship (and the sister pub, the Westleton Crown) could not have been more helpful - they drove us to nearby villages and back to the train station in the absence of an available taxi, and even chased us out to the beach in torrential rain to give us waterproofs (the idiots from London were sadly only equipped with flip-flops and sunglasses)! The room was great - clean, spacious and full of character and with a view over to the sea. The bar was the perfect place to cosy up after a long walk in the rain - lovely fish and chips and good local ales.
We had a lovely time - even in the rain!
Thank you!
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, Graeme, Chloe, and all the team at The Ship.
A rather mixed stay, in June
A rather mixed stay, in June 2007. The evening food was excellent as always, I have dined here many times in the past and never been dissatisfied. The accommodation was found wanting though, with cheap nylon duvets and sheets, worn carpets and a generally shoddy look. The price was not shoddy though and I would expect far more for the money - remember this is a competitive market, we shouldn't put up with this!. Breakfast was OK, just poorly presented. The whole experience is a little amateurish and I suspect this inn has recently been taken over by a new couple inexperienced with running this type of business. My advice: stick to lunch and dinner, and stay elsewhere.
Absolutely lovely old inn to
Absolutely lovely old inn to stay in with superb outlook onto Dunwich Heath through the antiquated windows. Everything about this inn is old and comforting. Great breakfasts served and evening dinners too, and of course the bar where all the locals come to. Dogs are welcome and even came with us to breakfast.
