Martlesham Heath was in its day one of the most significant of the East Anglian airfields. Time passes and much of the airfield is now gone. Happily, the original control tower remains and now performs the important function of reminding visitors of the many years over which this airfield operated, from its origins in the First World War to its closure in the early 1960s. The museum is situated on the first floor of the Tower and is crammed full of memorabilia that will excite and delight the visitor. There are artefacts, models, uniforms, numerous photographs of the aircraft that once flew here and the airmen who served here, folders full of memories penned by some of the latter, and so much else to see in such a relatively small space. For the aviation enthusiast it is a treasure house to explore at leisure. For the casual visitor, the presentation of the exhibits is such that they will quickly become bound up in the history of this famous place. With ample parking nearby it should not be missed by anyone visiting this delightful part of Suffolk.
