Britten's Library

Aldeburgh remains synonymous with the works of Benjamin Britten, particularly his opera Peter Grimes, a resonance of which never fails to reach my ears when walking along Aldeburgh beach or the surrounding salt marshes in winter. So a visit to Britten's old home, - The Red House - with its adjoining library, is a treat.
Britten composed many of his greatest works, including the War Requieum, the Church Parables and Death in Venice whilst living there (1957 - 1976) as well as building a Library, now an internation centre for research into the composer's life and work.
Guided tours of the Red House and Library take place at 3:00pm (Wed-Sat) from June to 1 September. From 5 - 28 September tours available Wednesday to Friday. All tours are by appointment, please call 01728 452615 for more details, £5 per person
