The room was extremely basic

The room was extremely basic for a rate of £160. The food in the restaurant was excellent but the service appalling. Very much like a young team on work experience without supervision. On checkout there was no manager to discuss the problems with and although we were informed that he would be in contact. This did not happen. The marketing blurb promises so much but sadly it is not there. The rooms have been recently refurbished and the high rates are probably designed to recoup this. At dinner on the Saturday night the recently appointed restaurant manger was inundated with complaints from four other tables to my knowledge.

Its very difficult to think

Its very difficult to think of any faults. The owners have clearly thought through everything and offer a friendly, clean and stylish inn. The rooms are freshly decorated and comfortable. The bar is a great feature with good beers and wines and the restaurant was a delight. The service overall was of a high standard. In summary, I couldn't imagine a better place to stay to enjoy the local area.

We went to the Crown for

We went to the Crown for Sunday lunch and were frankly disappointed. I will not use them again until they have sorted out their seriously poor service. The food, though not spectacular, was good. (very good vegetables.) The interactions we had with the staff were courteous and the location and environment were very pleasant. The beer was also in good condition. The problem lay with the inaccurate service. When we arrived ( we had booked ) we took our drinks out into the garden since we were early. One of the staff came to take our order. It was agreed that we would eat inside and would be called when the first course was ready. Furthermore the next round of drinks we had ordered would be ready at the table. Eventually a member of staff came out to us clearly thinking we were eating outside. We made clear that we were eating indoors. We never got that first dround of drinks. We had to reorder after a considerable wait. We had to ask in order for the surplus wine glasses to be taken away . (None of us were drinking wine.) After we had finished our main course, we had to go and hunt for the menu ourselves and had planned to have a dessert with a dessert wine. Unfortunately we eventually lost interest from being ignored. Front of house is just not doing the kitchen justice. Bar service was good. Incidentally we politely but firmly made out dissatisfaction clear.

Very comfortable, friendly

Very comfortable, friendly small inn with lovely, well decorated rooms if a bit small rooms and fantastic food. The only drawbacks were a lack of storage in the rooms (I like lots of hooks and shelves in bathrooms for example!) and a strange lack of windows in the rooms we hired which was not totally made up for by the sky-lights. A bit pricey given these niggles.
