Concert to Celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the Arrival of the Thamar Organ at Framlingham Church
300th Anniversary of the Thamar organ coming to St Michael's Church, Framlingham - 7 June 2008 at 7:30pm
Framlingham Church houses many treasures, not the least being the magnificent Thamar organ which sits proudly up in the West End of the church. For 300 years this instrument has enhanced the worship, been played for countless weddings, funerals and memorial services. Many recitals have been given, and it is thought that Mendelssohn may have played it when he visited George Attwood who was Rector here for many years.
Try to imagine how the thousands of pipes were transported from Pembroke College in Cambridge in 1708... Many, many journeys must have been made by horse and cart to bring it all to Framlingham. The college ad decided to have a new organ, perhaps not realising what a treasure they were parting with.
Do come to hear a recital to celebrate this special anniversary. It will be given by Dr Gerald Gifford on 7th June @ 7.30 pm - a great communicator and his programme promises to reveal all the colours and sounds of this
magnificent organ.
Tickets £10 (£9 pre-booked) from Judith Russell 01728724456 or Framlingham Stationers.
