Old fashioned in the best sense. The Essex Rose is housed in a 16th century building just a few yards from the river Stour on the corner of the main street.
English tea at its best, scones with Tiptree jams (the tea shop is owned by Tiptree) and an excellent selection of cakes, biscuits and sandwiches. Portions are generous so it is well worth taking a long walk or a very early light lunch if you want to make the most of a full tea.
Food is served throughout the day with English breakfast available until mid morning, followed by various light lunch options before tea in the afternoon. A lovely tea rooms, excellent staff.
