Generations of Thames Barge skippers have plied their traid at the historic grain quay at Snape Maltings.
Hop aboard and enjoy a 45 minute estuary cruise down the narrows, via the tiny village of Iken.
The Alde navigation is still marked with Hazel and Chestnut Withies, just as it would have been in the Bronze age.
Enjoy the diverse wildlife that changes with the seasons. Two pairs of Marsh Harriers nest around the brackish reed beds you often encounter Harbour Seals, Shelducks and wading birds feeding on the estuary.
Vintage Thames sailing barges can still be seen under sail in these waters.
The River Alde is tidal so sailing times and days will vary.Full details are available on the Snape Maltings website.
River trips run from late spring to early autumn.
Group bookings (parties of 10 people or more) can be made in advance
