The Airfield in Halesworth was mainly used by the Americans for their base. Th 56th Fighter Group and the 489th Bomb Group stayed here during the war. Towards the end of the war and thereafter the base became a rescue and training facility. It finally closed in February 1946.
The museum has an extensive collection of World War II memorabilia and includes several items specific to the airfield. When you walk through this fascinating museum you get a sense of what it was like in teh 1940s for the servicemen who lived here.
This is a 'must visit' for anyone with an interest in World War II history.
