28/1/08 Tetrad survey

It's all a bit hectic at the moment so I haven't been out much. My recent trip to sea was rather rough and busy most of the time. The highlight was an adult Yellow-legged Gull following the ship in the outer Thames.

Today was my first opportunity to get out and I still have three Tetrads to survey before the end of February so that rather decided my destination. Still, I spent an enjoyable if rather chilly 90 minutes logging over 1000 birds. Over half of these were Woodpigeon and a further quarter, were Black-headed Gulls. Most unusual was the pair of Reed Bunting and most heartening, were the six singing Skylark.

On the way back to work, I detoured briefly to have a look at the Black-throated Diver in Hamilton Dock. It was happily swimming and diving around the new pontoons - are they going to develop a marina next to SLP I wonder?
